The holiday season can be a lonely and difficult time of year, particularly for young people living in HCHA’s Young Persons’ Service. The service which caters for vulnerable people aged between 18 and 24 years old, provides accommodation in shared homes along with trained support staff to help them get back on their feet. Most of our service users come from backgrounds where there has been a breakdown in their family relationships, or are isolated for some other reason such as being new to the area or country.
Just before Christmas our staff presented all 34 young people living across our sheltered communal housing with food gift vouchers so they could buy something special for themselves. Raph Abum, Manager (pictured in centre of photo), said, ‘We aim to make our homes feel safe and comfortable places where young people can get to know each other and have some sense of community spirit.’
