After twenty-five years of service at HCHA, Christine Hill, Intensive Housing Coordinator at Gillian House sheltered
scheme, is retiring. Christine started work at Gillian House in 1990 as a relief staff member; a month later she secured the post of deputy manager and a year on was promoted to scheme manager. Christine reflects, ‘All these years I’ve been doing a job I love and got paid for it! Along the way I’ve met some very lovely people. I have also seen HCHA grow from an organisation with just three sheltered schemes to the Association it is now and have worked with four different Chief Executives.’
Christine says that her job description included the objective “To create and maintain an amenable atmosphere”. She says, ‘I’ve always worked on achieving that goal. For me the best feeling is when I see a room full of tenants relaxed, chatting happily and willing to help each other.’
Tenants at Gillian House held a special farewell lunch for her and she says, ‘There were forty people who came to
say goodbye. I received cards and gifts and felt absolutely overwhelmed.’
Gillian House residents will be pleased to learn that although Christine has officially retired she will be back to help run the popular Friday Friendship Circle and the monthly Sunday Service.
Christopher Holley, Chief Executive at HCHA said, ‘Christine has been a woman of action. Her kindness and caring nature is appreciated by her colleagues and tenants alike. She embodies the spirit of what we do at HCHA.’
