Barclay’s team Marian Humphryes, Viraj Bharadva and Ed Baldeo with residents from Ewart House.
Residents from Ewart House enjoyed their first IT learning session with the ‘Digital Eagle’ volunteers from Barclays Bank.
The community engagement initiative is designed to show those older people, who may not have access to or experience of handheld tablets, just how easy it is to get online. Marian Humphryes of Barclays Bank Harrow branch said, ‘It’s important that we reach out to the community to enhance their digital skills.’
Resident Rupell Green (age 75) was shown how to use a handheld computer tablet and access the internet for the first time ever, she remarked, ‘It’s not so difficult, it just takes a little time.’
Anil Pattni said, ‘I really want to speak with my family members who live overseas.’ Anil was shown how to sign up for a Skype account and make free and low cost calls.
Barclays Digital Eagle Viraj Bharadva who relishes an opportunity to help others find their interests online said, ‘We just pleased to be passing on our knowledge.’

Soni Shah, Communications Manager at HCHA said, ‘Digital inclusion for all of our tenants is a priority. We welcome training opportunities particularly for people living in sheltered accommodation because they can learn how to connect to family and friends on skype, do their shopping online, check their rent statements, or just enjoy music and videos.’
In addition to help from the Digital Eagles, we have recruited Digital Champions living in our own sheltered schemes at Paxfold (Charlotte Smyth) and Ewart House (Michael Condon) who are ready to help you get online.
We are looking for more Digital Champions to volunteer to assist and encourage other tenants. If you or one of your family members or friends are computer literate and would like to volunteer to share your knowledge with others on how to get started on a laptop or tablet. If you are interested, please get in touch with your scheme manager, or contact Soni at our Head Office on 020 8424 2776 or via email to email@example.com.
