HCHA Board member Philip Dean along with Tracey Baldwin (Finance Manager) made a surprise appearance at Peggy Waters 90th birthday party to present her with our first ever HCHA Community Star Award. Philip said, ‘Peggy truly deserves this award, it is given with our heartfelt appreciation of her tremendous contribution to life at Wolstenholme sheltered scheme in Stanmore.’
Linda Jackson, Intensive Housing Coordinator at Wolstenholme, said, ‘Peggy Waters is an inspirational resident, she is always armed with positive suggestions and ideas. Her friends describe her as a “doer” who likes to keep busy, be active, and takes pleasure in seeing others enjoying themselves. Peggy is a valuable and treasured member of the Wolstenholme community and
everybody appreciates what she does.’
During her 16 years at Wolstenholme, Peggy has been an active member of the Tenants Social Activities Committee, helping to organise events and the social calendar at Wolstenholme. Peggy is also the Tenant Forum Representative for the sheltered
scheme, attending meetings and giving tenants a voice. Her organisational skills are put to good use by the Forum who rely
on Peggy to take the minutes and circulate them. In her individual capacity she sends a ‘welcome to your new home’ greeting card
from Wolstenholme to every new tenant. Over the years Peggy has supported many neighbours and friends especially at times of illness by helping them with their shopping and running errands. Among Peggy’s many talents is flower arranging. She volunteers
to change the floral displays in the communal areas at Wolstenholme. She also oversees the residents annual fundraising efforts.
Last year £226 was raised for the Alzheimer’s Society, whilst this year’s chosen charity is Mount Vernon Hospital Cancer Unit.
When asked how she felt about receiving the award Peggy, in her typical modest style, said, ‘I am normally a ‘behind the scenes’
person, rather than taking centre stage, but this award is quite an honour.’
Peggy blows out candles on her 90th birthday.
