Hounslow’s Mayor Sue Sampson, Ruth Cadbury MP, Catherine Dunne, portfolio holder for Housing and local ward councillors Ajmer and Pritam Grewal were invited by HCHA to join tenants and staff in marking three decades of social housing provision at Dashwood Court in Hounslow.
Mayor Sampson said, ‘I would like to thank HCHA for inviting me to Dashwood Court today to join with them in celebrating its 30th Anniversary. Housing for older people is changing but we know how important it still is to have a safe, secure and affordable place to live. I have been lucky enough today to have a tour of your home and to see for myself what it is like to live here and to meet the staff who work on site, helping the tenants day in and day out and some of those working in the background. Between you all, you make this a vibrant and genuine community. Hounslow Council are proud to have worked in partnership with Harrow Churches Housing Association and we hope to continue to do so in the future.’
The guests met some of the 36 tenants who live at Dashwood Court, several of whom have lived there for more than 20 years. They cut a celebratory cake and had tea and a chat with everyone who attended.
Ahad Mughal, HCHA Operations Manager, said ‘We aim to provide good quality homes and services for older people for life. It’s a pleasure to work alongside the tenants and I’d also like to thank our onsite staff who go the extra mile for them.’
Ruth Cadbury MP presented an award to staff member Pam Cummins for going above and beyond her duty for residents. Upon receiving the award Pam said, ‘I’m so surprised to be getting this award. I love my job and enjoy working with our tenants!’
Mayor Sampson presented one tenant Mary with an HCHA Community Star Award for being such an enthusiastic and active member of the Dashwood residents community, she has been involved in so many of the social activities including the knitting and gardening clubs, coffee mornings and other events. Mary can always be relied upon not only to participate but to help and support others.
The guests were also joined by Petra Gratton, Vice Chair of HCHA Board, who said, ‘I’m delighted to join the residents and staff, as well as our local politicians, in the celebration of 30 years since the establishment of Dashwood Court. It’s good to hear that residents have recently benefited from the windows replacement programme and updating of the alarm system, and interesting to see how some flats had been upgraded.’
