After a series of consultations with residents and local neighbours culminating in our most recent ‘Meet the Builder’ event on 14th November 2013, work began at the end of November on the re-development of Elizabeth Gardens Stanmore.
The existing sheltered housing scheme is being extended to include an additional 28 apartments that are designed to meet the standards for extra care housing for people age 55 years and older.
The new building will achieve the Code for Sustainable Homes level 4 and incorporates both green and brown roofs and a three-storey ‘eco-wall’ within the communal garden. It also includes the upgrading of communal areas and enhancement of the area of woodland to the south of the site.
The re-development is being carried out by Leadbitter’s on behalf of Harrow Churches Housing Association. The works will be carried out in 5 phases with completion expected in January 2015.
Vicky Barker, the Community Engagement Coordinator, is the first point of contact for queries or issues regarding the development of the project and she says ‘I enjoy the interaction with people to try and resolve their issues. It is very satisfying to assist residents and it is interesting to see how views change through the course of the build.’
